John Capra is President of Tailwinds of Hope a local Non-Profit that provides scholarships that support the dreams of hard-working, compassionate, and goal oriented young students. The foundation currently provides seven scholarships totaling $27,000 a year. John comes with 27 years of corporate business working for Pepsi Bottling. John started his career in Sales and moved into warehouse operations and concluded his career as a Supply Planner. After retirement John focused his attention on Tailwinds of Hope. Tailwinds of Hope started with one scholarship and has grown with seven scholarships supporting students. John puts on a local annual golf tournament that attracts over two hundred golfers and is the main fundraiser for the foundation. Tailwinds of Hope Non-Profit was created to honor the memory of Zachary Capra, a future commercial airline pilot. Zachary was killed April 4, 2018, when the small engine plane he was flying crashed just after takeoff in Daytona Beach, Florida while he was conducting his final check ride to obtain his commercial pilot’s license. On that clear morning, just shortly after takeoff, the left wing separated from the aircraft and crashed in an open field. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) examiner John Azma also perished in this crash. John grew up in Westminster and attended Westminster Public Schools, Metz Elementary, Clear Lake Junior High School and Iver C Ranum High School. John also worked for the City of Westminster in the Parks Department for six years. Since John has been part of this community for 60 years, his passion shows and believes it is his obligation to give back to his community.
